Drummer John Engels started his professional career sixty-seven years ago in 1953. He has since become one of the grandmasters of Dutch jazz and has accompanied many legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Ray Brown, Louis van Dijk and Toots Thielemans on stage. He also did two tours through Japan with trumpet player Chet Baker. John Engels has played on more than 250 records, among which several have been awardad with Edisons, he received a Bird award, the prestigious Boy Edgar award. John has been knighted in the Order of the Dutch Lion and recently received the Frans Banninck Cocq Penning.
Bassist Joris Teepe moved to New York in 1992 and has been a part of the city’s jazz scene ever since. Teepe collaborated with Benny Golson, Don Braden, Charles McPherson, Bobby Watson, Sonny Fortune, Tom Harrell, Chris Potter, Billy Hart and Randy Brecker. He has recorded 19 albums as a bandleader and his 16th album ‘in The Spirit of Rashied Ali’ received a nomination for an Edison Award. Joris Teepe has also toured with Rashied Ali (John Coltrane’s last drummer) for over 9 years.
As one of the most well-known and respected saxophone players in The Netherlands, Benjamin Herman is a guest artist on over 150 albums and has released over 50 records as a solo artist and as bandleader of New Cool Collective. He is a sought after side man and has performed with an unusual broad range of musicians ranging from straight ahead jazz to hip hop and avant garde. From Dr. John to Paul Weller and from Han Bennink to Rein de Graaff.
